1. Summary in one sentence
Backstage does not collect, store on servers, transmit or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no servers of our own, no analytics and no third-party advertising. Everything the app saves is your progress data, and it lives only on your device.
The rest of this document explains that sentence in the detail the stores and the law require, but it adds no hidden exceptions: there are none.
2. What data is not collected
To leave no ambiguity, here is a list of what this app does not do:
- It does not ask for your real name, email address, phone number or date of birth.
- There is no registration, no sign-in, and no sign-in with Google, Apple or social networks.
- It does not use advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, AAID on Android) or any other device or session identifier.
- It does not collect your IP address, because it makes no request to any server.
- It does not access your location, approximate or precise.
- It does not access your contacts, calendar, photos, camera, microphone or files.
- It does not read your music library or any other content on the device.
- It does not send push notifications and does not register the device with any notification service. It can schedule one local notification a day if you turn on the daily reminder in Settings; your own phone schedules it and no server is involved.
- It includes no analytics, audience measurement, install attribution, heat-map or session-recording tools.
- It includes no advertising networks or sponsored content.
- It includes no error or crash reporting tools that send reports anywhere.
- It does no profiling, no segmentation and no automated decision-making about you.
- It does not sell or hand over data to anyone, because it has no data to sell or hand over.
The app requests a single operating-system permission, and only if you ask for it: notifications, when you turn on the "Daily reminder" switch in Settings, which is off by default. It is used to schedule one local alert a day at the time you choose, and you can turn it off whenever you like. If you don't turn it on, it is never requested.
No other permission is requested: no camera, microphone, contacts, location or photos. If your phone ever asks you for any of those on behalf of Backstage, something is wrong: write to us.
3. What the app saves, and where
Backstage saves your progress so you can pick up where you left off. Specifically:
- The stage name you type on the Profile screen, if you type one. It is free text, it is not verified, it is not shared and it does not have to be your real name.
- Your total XP and today's XP.
- Your current streak, your best streak and the date of the last day you used the app.
- Your lives and the time from which they refill.
- Your gems.
- Your daily XP goal.
- For each lesson: how many crowns it has, your best accuracy percentage and when you completed it.
- The list of exercises you got wrong that are still waiting for review.
- The achievements you have unlocked.
- Your settings: the app language and, if you turn it on, the daily reminder and its time.
This data is saved using the app's local storage (AsyncStorage), under the key backstage-progress-v1, inside the private space that the operating system reserves for each app. Separately, under the key backstage-review-v1, the app notes whether it has already shown you the rating request, so as not to repeat it; it does not save what you answered, because the store does not tell it.
It never leaves your device. It is not synced, not backed up to a server of ours, not linked to any identity, and nobody but you can see it — starting with whoever made the app.
Legally, this means that the person processing that data is you, on your own device. There is no data controller on the other side because there is no other side.
4. Network connections
Backstage does not need the internet for any part of how it works. You can use all of it in airplane mode: the 50 lessons and 350 exercises come inside the app.
The only exceptions are links that you decide to tap, and there are three of them:
- The link to this privacy policy, from the legal notices screen.
- The two links in the Recommended tools section of the Profile (
ytrocket.comandnaeku.io).
In all three cases the same thing happens: your phone's browser opens and the request is made by the browser, not by the app. From then on, the destination site sees what any web server sees: your IP address and your browser's details. Backstage sends nothing with those links — they carry no identifiers, tracking parameters or affiliate codes — and receives no signal back: we don't know whether you tapped them. If you don't tap them, absolutely nothing happens.
There are two other things worth mentioning, because they leave the app even though they don't reach us:
- The rating request. After you complete several lessons, the app may ask the system to show the store's rating dialog (Google Play In-App Review on Android, the App Store's on iOS). That dialog is drawn and managed by the store, under its privacy policy; the store decides whether it appears and does not tell the app whether you rated it or what you wrote. Backstage sends nothing.
- The certificate. When you finish the course you can generate a PDF certificate with your stage name, your crowns and the date. It is created on the phone, offline. It only leaves the app if you share it from the system share sheet, and it goes wherever you choose.
5. Third parties
There are none.
There are no service providers, no data processors, no third-party SDKs that collect data, no advertising partners and no international data transfers. None of those usual sections applies to this app because there is no recipient of data.
The app is built with free and open-source software (React Native, Expo and other libraries). They are libraries compiled into the app: they are not services, they receive no information and there is no communication with their authors.
It is worth being honest about three things that do not depend on the app:
- The sites we link to. The "Recommended tools" section of the Profile links to
ytrocket.comandnaeku.io. They are run by the same team that makes Backstage, so they are not third-party recommendations and we do not present them as such. What we can tell you: they sell or unlock nothing inside Backstage, the app is free and complete without ever tapping them, the links carry no affiliate code or tracking parameters, and the app receives no signal back. If you open them you leave Backstage, and from then on each of those sites' own privacy policy applies.
- The stores. Apple and Google collect their own data when you download or update any app, including this one: that happens on their platform, under their privacy policies, and we neither control it nor receive anything from it. The aggregated, anonymous statistics shown in the developer consoles (number of installs, countries, operating-system versions) are generated by the store, not by the app, and do not make it possible to identify anyone.
- Your own phone's backup. If you have the system backup turned on (iCloud on iOS, Google Backup on Android), Backstage's local storage may be included in it, like any other app's. That backup is yours, it is in your account and it is governed by Apple's or Google's privacy policy. We have no access to it. You can exclude the app from the backup in your operating system's settings.
6. Children
Backstage is not directed at children under 13. The content deals with contracts, assignment of rights and money settlements, a subject that presupposes an adult audience or teenagers with a professional interest.
That said, the app collects no data from anyone, of any age. There is no personal information about minors that we could have obtained, because there is no personal information about anyone. The parental-consent mechanisms of COPPA and the GDPR provisions on children's data therefore do not apply: there is no data to consent to.
7. Your rights
Data protection law — the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union, the CCPA/CPRA in California, the LGPD in Brazil, the LFPDPPP in Mexico and equivalents in other countries — grants you a set of rights over your personal data. We list them and say frankly how they are exercised here:
| Right | How it is exercised in Backstage |
|---|---|
| Access — knowing what data there is about you | It is right in front of you: it is what the app's Profile screen shows. There is no additional copy anywhere else. |
| Rectification — correcting inaccurate data | It is edited from the app: the stage name and the daily goal are changed in Profile. |
| Erasure (right to be forgotten) | Profile → "Erase all my progress" deletes everything immediately. Uninstalling the app also removes it completely. There is nothing to ask us to delete because we have nothing. |
| Portability | The app currently does not export progress to a file. This is a real limitation and we acknowledge it; the data does not leave your device, so there is no copy of ours to transfer to another service either. |
| Objection and restriction of processing | There is no processing to object to: we do not analyse, profile or share. |
| Withdrawing consent | You are not asked for consent to process data because no data is processed. |
| Not being subject to automated decisions | There are none. The game mechanics (lives, XP, crowns) are fixed rules described in the app itself, not profiling. |
| Non-discrimination for exercising your rights (CCPA) | The app is free and complete for everyone; erasing your progress does not limit any feature. |
| Sale or "sharing" of personal data (CCPA/CPRA) | Personal data is not sold or shared, and has never been sold or shared. There is no "Do Not Sell" signal to turn on because there is no sale. |
| Complaint to a supervisory authority | You can complain to the data protection authority of your country. In Spain, the AEPD; in Mexico, the relevant guarantor body; in the EU, the authority of your Member State. |
For any question or to exercise these rights, write to contact@pdevelop.net. We will reply within a reasonable time and, in any case, within the time limits set by the applicable law (30 days under the GDPR, which may be extended). Keep in mind that if you write to us, your email address and the content of your message will reach our inbox: that is personal data, and we will use it only to reply to you.
8. Retention and deletion of data
Your progress data stays on your device as long as the app is installed and you do not delete it. There is no retention period on our side because we keep nothing.
It is permanently deleted in any of these three cases:
- You tap Profile → "Erase all my progress" and confirm.
- You uninstall the app. The operating system deletes the app's local storage along with it.
- You clear the app's data from the system settings (on Android, Settings → Apps → Backstage → Storage → Clear data).
There is no cloud backup on our side, so deletion is irreversible. It is the direct trade-off for not asking you for an account: if you change phones, your progress does not travel with you.
9. Security
The data is stored in the private storage that the operating system assigns to each app, isolated from other apps by the system itself (sandbox). It is not transmitted, so there is no risk of interception in transit.
It is not additionally encrypted inside the app, and we will say why: it contains no sensitive information — it is points, crowns and a stage name you choose — and device encryption, on by default on iOS and on current versions of Android, already protects it if the phone is lost. Adding our own encryption layer would give a feeling of security without really improving it.
Since there are no servers or accounts, there is also no possibility of a data breach of Backstage users: there is no database to leak.
10. Other notices
This is not strictly a privacy matter, but it belongs to the same frank approach and is repeated inside the app, on the legal notices screen:
Backstage is educational material. It does not constitute legal, tax or financial advice. The market figures that appear in the lessons are presented as typical ranges and vary by territory, platform and time. A contract should be reviewed by a specialised lawyer before you sign it. The app does not promise or guarantee any financial result.
The names of collecting societies, publishers, labels, distributors and digital platforms mentioned in the content appear for informational and educational purposes only. They are trademarks of their respective owners, and this app has no affiliation, sponsorship, endorsement or commercial relationship with them.
11. Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects privacy — for example, if cloud sync, accounts or any form of analytics were added in the future — this policy will be updated before that change reaches the store, and the App Store privacy label and the Google Play Data safety form will be changed too.
The "Last updated" date in the header shows the version in force. Substantial changes will also be announced in the release notes of the corresponding version.
